Before we go to the wine, a little dive in history is demanded. In the beginning of the XVIII century Lisbon was languishing with the lack of fresh water. King D. João V ordained for the construction of a great water system from which the main legacy to the city is the colossal stone archway aqueduct you can see in the district of Alcantara.
The Chafariz da Mãe-de-Água was part of that complex system of subterranean canals. Now it is home of Chafariz do Vinho (Wine Fountain) a bar committed to wine. But not any wine - here you can find the best crops from Portuguese, French and many other liquor. You can have a bottle or just taste it cup by cup. The bottles are now stored in the tunnels that used to bring fresh water to the neighborhood.
